CHACHAPOYAS THE ROUTE OF TRADITIONS AND NATURAL BEAUTY

DAY 1: TOUR TO KUELAP

Reception at the terminal or airport of Chachapoyas and transport to the hotel.

Am: Departure to the village of Nuevo Tingo where there will first be a quick stop to order your lunches in advance. Then you will board the first cable car system constructed in Peru which will take you to the tourist center of La Malca (approximately 20 min) where the entrance fees to Kuelap will be purchased. From there a walk of approximately 25 minutes to reach the Archaeological Complex of Kuelap where you will have a guided tour of the whole site. A very important archaeological jewel of the world.
Afterwards you will go back to Nuevo Tingo to have the lunch you reserved and then return to your hotel in Chachapoyas.

DAY 2: WATERFALL OF GOCTA

Am: Breakfast at your respective hotel and then a 1 hour drive to the village of Cocachimba. Before starting your hike to the waterfall at the village, your lunch will be reserved in advance and your entrance fees purchased. The spectacular 6 kilometer hike will take you through cloud forest brimming with biodiversity, allowing one to enjoy flora and fauna such as the cock-of-the-rock, monkeys, bromeliads, and orchids before reaching the base of the imposing waterfall of Gocta. There the guide will relate the local legends as you take photos, and bathing in the refreshing embrace of the waterfall is also an alluring option. Afterwards you will return to the village to enjoy the delicious regional lunches that were reserved, and upon finishing eating, you will be driven back to your hotel in Chachapoyas.

DAY 3: CAVE OF QUIOCTA AND THE SARCOPHAGI OF KARAJIA

Am: Breakfast at your respective hotel and then a drive to the village of Lamud, capital of the Luya province, where you will get to see its plaza de armas and order your lunch in advance. From there we will continue driving for a half hour to reach the first cave in Peru that is illuminated by artificial lighting: the Cave of Quiocta. There you can admire and photograph various stalagmites and stalactites of considerable size, as well as prehispanic funerary remains and rock art, discovering the hidden secrets of Uku Pacha while being accompanied by an expert guide.
Afterwards you will return to Lamud to enjoy the delicious lunch you reserved. From Lamud you will proceed to the village of Cruzpata in a drive of around 1 hour and once reaching that village, you will commence a hike of approximately 25 minutes to reach the cliff tombs of Karajia. These types of cliff tomb, sarcophagi which each contain an individual mummy, are unique to the Chachapoyas culture. There you will have plenty of time for photography and a detailed explanation from the guide. Afterwards you will hike back to your vehicle and then return to the town of Chachapoyas.

DAY 4: REVASH AND THE MUSEUM OF LEYMEBAMBA

Am: Breakfast at your respective hotel and then an approximately 2 hour drive to the village of San Bartolo. From there you will start a half hour hike to reach the prehispanic funerary site of Revash: Andean cliff tombs (also called chullpas) that contained the mummies of the elite of the Chachapoyas culture. There you will have plenty of time for taking photographs and for a detailed exposition of the site from the guide. Afterwards you will hike back to your vehicle which will take you to the village of Leymebamba. There you will have lunch and after eating, proceed to the Museum of Leymebamba, which has over 200 mummies and thousands of other artifacts (such as quipus), all of which were taken from the cliff tombs of Laguna de los Condores. You will have 2 hours to visit the entire collection and then return to your vehicle in order to be driven back to the town of Chachapoyas.

DAY 5: WATERFALL OF YUMBILLA

Am: Breakfast at your respective hotel and then we depart to the village of Cuispes in a 2 hour drive. From there you will start an easy hike that will take you to discover a paradise of biodiversity. This protected ecosystem has a rich variety of flora, such as orchids, bromeliads, and passion flowers. And apart from all the plant life, you might even come across majestic animals such as the Andean spectacled bear. Bird watchers will also be delighted with the possibility of encountering over 223 different species of birds, such as the marvelous spatuletail.

Upon reaching the waterfall of Yumbilla, you will be able to appreciate its height of 891 meters, which according to the World Waterfall Database, is the second highest in Peru and the fifth highest in the world. An amazing sight to behold! You will have plenty of free time to relax there and capture all the surrounding beauty with your camera. After absorbing the magic and magnificence of this place, you will hike back to your vehicle in order to have lunch in the town of Pedro Ruiz. Then returning to the town of Chachapoyas upon finishing lunch.

DAY 6: THE POTTERY VILLAGE OF HUANCAS

Am o pm: We begin our day with a visit to the village of Huancas, principally known for its traditional methods of pottery, which was declared a cultural patrimony of the nation in 2012. You will also get to see its plaza de armas as well as the lookout tower of the Canyon of Sonche, being able to witness the splendour of the canyon’s depth of 800 meters that descends down to the Utcubamba and Sonche rivers. The perfect place to breathe fresh air and to photograph majestic landscapes. Afterwards a return to Chachapoyas to visit its principal viewing point at the heights of the city: Luya Urco, in order to see an impressive panorama of the whole city as well as a visit to the legendary well of Yanayacu.
Transport to the airport or the terminal of Chachapoyas. End of services.
