TREK TO LAGUNA DE LOS CONDORES

DAY 1: REVASH AND THE MUSEUM LEYMEBAMBA

The journey begins with a reception at your hotel, from where we begin an exciting car trip to the impressive cliff tombs of Revash. These funerary structures, adorned with rock art and designs of varying symbols, will fascinate us. During the visit, the guide will provide valuable information which will enrich the experience.

After being amazed at Revash, lunch will be enjoyed at our next stop in the village of Leymebamba. There also, after lunch, we will bear witness to the cultural richness of the Leymebamba Museum, which houses more than 2000 artifacts, such as textiles, ceramics, and weapons, as well as 200 mummies, which will connect us to the past of the region. We will conclude the day with a walkabout around Leymebamba, before retiring to our hotel for supper and a well earned rest.

DAY 2: HIKE TO LAGUNA DE LOS CONDORES

After having breakfast you will reunite with the guide to begin the trek, exploring diverse ecologies that house a rich variety of flora and fauna.

The day’s end goal is to reach the impressive Laguna de los Condores, also known as the Laguna de los Momias. This historic place gained renown in 1996, when more than 200 mummies were found intact, which are now exhibited and preserved at the prestigious Museum of Leymebamba, considered one of the most outstanding archaeological treasures of Peru. During the night you will lodge at a comfy and traditional cabin where you will have supper and a well earned rest, in order to continue the exciting adventure the next day.

DAY 3: THE TOMBS OF LAGUNA DE LOS CONDORES

The day begins with an early breakfast to continue onwards to the tombs where all the mummies were found. There you will encounter six main structures decorated with rock art which formally housed all the mummies along with all their possessions such as textiles, ceramics. The access to the tombs is very difficult but there will also be a vantage point to observe them with binoculars. In the afternoon you will have free time as well to explore around the lake or even go fishing for trout.

DAY 4: RETURN HIKE TO LEYMEBAMBA

After breakfast you will hike back to Leymemba, having some last glances back to all the majestic and mysterious peaks covered in cloud forest. The adventure ends in Chachapoyas after departing from Leymebamba.
